Westminster Presbyterian Church ~ Boardman, Ohio
Located in the center of the greater Youngstown area, two blocks from Southern Park Mall at the highest point in Boardman Township, Westminster is a church of striking architecture, its lighted tower visible for many miles. The spacious air-conditioned Sanctuary features a unique stained glass window depicting the City of God, a distinctive communion table, and a glorious pipe organ.
Westminster Presbyterian Church is a family, diverse in name and need; united in our conviction that Jesus Christ is Lord. We believe that God is calling us to excellence in Christian worship, education, nurture, and mission in Boardman, the Mahoning Valley and lands beyond. In our sanctuary there is a communion table of unusual beauty to remind us that God accepts us wherever we are on our spiritual journey. Around this table there is always room for one more.

So here I am in 2007 welcoming YOU to the Website of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, PCUSA, in Boardman, Ohio. And actually, I'm not welcoming you to a website,or even to our church building.  I'm welcoming you to the Good News of Jesus Christ, which is why we are here in the first place.
We - the Church - exist for those who are outside of it.  I often give the definition of "church" as:
not a resort for saints,
but a hospital for sinners.
That's why we're here:  forgiven by the Savior who's called us into service to build the Kingdom of God.  We simply invite you to join us in that calling.

We are in service to build the Kingdom of God.  And we invite you to join us in that calling.
The Reverend David B. Joachim

When I left Pittsburgh Seminary in 1977, believe me, they never said anything about us one day writing a welcome page from the pastor for a website. Website?!
Got something to do with a spider?
But, here we are in the 21st century putting entire church programs, pictures, sermons and what-not on a screen that sits in almost every home...and we're not talkin' TV!

Ethiopia Education Endowment Fund Founders Meet to Expand Efforts for Quality Education in Dembi Dollo, Ethiopia

The Development Committee of the Ethiopia Education Endowment Fund, a group dedicated to helping provide quality Christian education in Ethiopia, met on Saturday, April 29, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman, Ohio.  It was its third biennial meeting.
EEEF was formed three years ago to raise, invest, and disburse funds to three Presbyterian Church-related schools in Dembi Dollo, in western Ethiopia.  The schools are Brihane Yesus, an elementary school with more then 800 students; Bethel Evangelical Secondary School, a high school with more than 400 students; and Gidada Bible Institute, a school which trains lay evangelists and church leaders.
The EEEF Development Committee receives gifts from individuals, church groups, and congregations and invests them with the Presbyterian Foundation.  Currently the endowment fund stands at $344,800 toward a capital goal of one million dollars.  It has already distributed more than $30,000 of endowment proceeds to its three target institutions.
EEEF Development Committee officers were elected at Saturday’s meeting: Moderator, Rev. Richard W. Braun of Youngstown, OH; Vice-Moderator, Mr. D. Michael Jones of Kinsman, OH; Clerk, Dr. David T. Reed,  of Ambler, PA; and Treasurer, Mrs. Irene Sams of Sebring, OH.
While the purpose of the Fund is to provide long-term financial support for quality education for young people and church leaders in one of the poorest lands in the world, the Development Committee has also recruited volunteer teams to do structural maintenance work on school
buildings and assist in new construction.  Recently $30,000 was raised, independent of the endowment fund itself, to build a women’s dormitory
at the Gidada Bible Institute.  Eleven volunteers from Northeast Ohio and Eastern Pennsylvania helped construct the facility.
The Ethiopia Education Endowment Fund welcomes the interest and questions of any person or organization desiring to share in providing a good educational base for poor children and youth.  For information, contact Rev. Richard W. Braun, 177B Mathews Road, Youngstown, OH 44512, or Dr. David T. Reed, 1547 E. Butler Pike, Ambler, PA 19002.

PENTECOST: "Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting" (Acts 2:2)

Gathered together for the Feast of Weeks, the disciples and their early Christian friends first recognized the presence of the Holy Spirit. The white dove represents God's descending love; fiery flames also indicate divine Presence. Suddenly, the followers understand; their exciting task to spread the story
